Turkey, 27 December 2025 Turkey has strongly condemned Israel's recognition of Somaliland, calling it an action that creates instability both regionally and globally.
A statement issued by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Israel’s recognition of Somaliland is yet another example of unlawful actions by Prima Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government aimed at creating instability at both regional and global levels.
“Israel’s recognition of the independence of the Somaliland region is another example of illegal actions and policies of the Netanyahu government, which are designed to create instability regionally and globally,” the statement read.
The statement noted that Israel’s policies have consistently caused instability in the region, adding that its recognition of Somaliland is a direct interference in Somalia’s internal affairs.
The Ministry emphasized that decisions regarding the future of Somalia and Somaliland should be made in accordance with the will of the Somali people, as prescribed by international law.
More from Somalia
“Decisions regarding the future of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Somaliland region must be made in a manner that reflects the will of all Somali people,” the statement said.
Turkey’s statement is in response to Israel’s official recognition of Somaliland, a move that has been condemned by Somalia's key allies.
Turkey has long been a strong ally of Somalia, particularly in terms of regional cooperation and peace-building efforts.
