Somalia, 27 December 2025 The Somali Opposition Forum, also known as the Somali Salvation Forum, has strongly rejected reports claiming that Israel has recognized the self-declared Somaliland region as an independent state, warning that such a move would constitute a serious violation of Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the forum said it was following with deep concern the circulating reports about the alleged recognition, stressing that Somaliland remains an inseparable part of the Federal Republic of Somalia. It emphasized that Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and internationally recognized borders are non-negotiable, and that any attempt to undermine them is null and void and carries no legal or political legitimacy.
The forum noted that any recognition of Somaliland would run counter to international law, the United Nations Charter, and the Constitutive Act of the African Union, and would pose a direct threat to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. It warned that taking such claims could open the door to dangerous precedents across the African continent and further destabilize the region.

Calling for international action, the Somali Opposition Forum urged the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the United Nations to uphold their responsibilities in protecting Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. It also firmly rejected any form of external interference in Somalia’s internal affairs or attempts to alter its internationally recognized borders.
The forum further reaffirmed its principled support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, particularly the right to self-determination, in line with international law and principles of justice.
In conclusion, the Forum called on all Somalis, across political and social divides, to remain united and vigilant in defending the country’s sovereignty and safeguarding its territorial integrity amid what it described as a sensitive and potentially destabilizing regional moment.
