Iraq, 27 December, 2025 Iraq has strongly condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, describing the move as a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, and a grave infringement on state sovereignty.
In a statement issued on Friday, Iraq, in its capacity as the current chair of the League of Arab States, said it considered Israel’s declaration a clear violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and a move that undermines efforts to preserve security and stability in the region.
The statement added that such unlawful steps pose a direct threat to stability in the Horn of Africa, contribute to regional escalation, and risk further aggravating tensions in ways that negatively impact international peace and security.
