DUSAMAREB, 6 November 2026 — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud urged the opposition Thursday to join the dialogue forum opened by the federal government, saying he was ready to accept any proposal better than the government's.
"If anyone has a better idea than this forum, let them tell us, and we are willing to accept it," Mohamud said at a farewell event in Dusamareb for guests who attended the inauguration of the new leadership of Galmudug State.
The president said the forum remained open and that anyone was free to bring issues they considered important.
"A forum has been laid out for political matters, meant for people to join and discuss the issues at hand. Everyone is allowed to put forward the agenda they consider important, and it will be debated," he said. "So there is no reason for division."
Mohamud dismissed opposition claims of mistreatment or deception, saying a politician seeking to lead the country could not easily be misled.

"'I have been wronged, I have been deceived' – that does not exist. A politician who wants to lead the country is too wise to be deceived," he said.
He also warned against seeking foreign solutions to domestic disputes.
"We do not need to put on our jackets and fly abroad to solve our problems. It does not work for us, it never has, and it will not now," he said, adding that any dispute could be resolved inside the country.
The appeal comes amid a political dispute between the government and the opposition over constitutional amendments, the terms of office of state institutions and the format of elections.
