MOGADISHU (Dawan) – Somalia has reinforced nationwide preparedness measures against Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), with health authorities confirming that no cases have been detected in the country.
In a public advisory issued by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Care, officials said the measures were being implemented in response to regional Ebola outbreaks and the risk of cross-border transmission through airports, seaports and land crossings.
The ministry said it had activated key components of its national response framework, including emergency coordination mechanisms, disease surveillance, laboratory readiness, border screening, case management and public awareness campaigns.
Health Minister Dr. Ali Haji Adan recently chaired a coordination meeting at the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC) to review preparedness and response measures. Authorities have also launched the National Ebola Preparedness and Response Plan, which outlines procedures for early detection, rapid response and community engagement.
The ministry said senior government officials, including the president, prime minister and national security authorities, had been briefed on the country’s preparedness measures.
