Mogadishu, 4 September 2026 - Former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire warned against using armed drones in political disputes after what he described as an overnight strike on the home of Gen. Mahad Abdirahman Aden in Doolow.
In a statement on Friday, Khaire described the reported attack as a dangerous new dimension in Somalia's crisis, saying political disputes cannot be resolved through lethal force.
"Last night's drone strike on the home of General Mahad Abdirahman Aden marks a dangerous new dimension in Somalia's crisis," he said.
He said the use of lethal force by an administration whose mandate had expired was unjustifiable, adding that such capability should not be entrusted to an administration without an accountability mechanism.

Khaire described Doolow as a stable district in Jubaland and warned against introducing armed drones into the country's political disputes.
"Bringing armed drones into a political dispute sets the country on a dangerous course," he said.
"Political differences cannot be settled by force and air strikes," he added.
The details of the reported strike, including casualties or damage, have not been independently verified. The federal government has not responded to the allegations.
