Somalia 29 may 2026 Jubaland security forces in Dhobley have arrested four young men suspected of attempting illegal migration to Europe via Kenya and Libya, state authorities said.
According to security sources, the suspects were intercepted at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Dhoobley after officers became suspicious of their movement and the absence of guarantors or local sponsors required for entry into the town.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated the group was linked to a smuggling network that facilitates human trafficking cross the Somalia–Kenya border.
Authorities also confirmed the seizure of the vehicle that transported them from Mogadishu, along with the detention of additional individuals suspected of involvement in migrant smuggling operations.

The Dhoobley district administration said security has been intensified, noting that law enforcement remains vigilant against any unauthorized movements into the town.
Dhoobley, located along the Somalia–Kenya border, is one of the key transit points used by migrants attempting to reach Libya and eventually Europe, despite increasing risks posed by trafficking networks, detention in Libya, and dangerous sea crossings.
International migration monitoring agencies report that in 2026, risks facing migrants along the Libya route and the Mediterranean Sea have continued to rise, with growing concerns over deaths, disappearances, and exploitation along the journey.
