Somalia, 14 April 2026 – Somalia's federal and state ministers met in Mogadishu Tuesday to review the National Transformation Plan, address humanitarianism challenges and draft recommendations to improve devlopment and relief efforts.
The session, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, included presentations on execution strategies, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and resource mobilisation efforts.
Somalia’s Minister of Planning Mohamud Sheikh Farah said the National Development Council meets quarterly to monitor and guide development initiatives across the country.
“This meeting takes place every three months and is designed to manage national development efforts and review ongoing and planned projects to assess their progress and whether they have met their intended objectives,” the minister said.
Ministers from federal member states said the meeting provided an opportunity to present humanitarian response mechanisms in their regions, as well as ongoing development plans.

Discussions also addressed key issues such as food security, nutrition and drought conditions affecting parts of the country.
Somalia continues to face humanitarian pressures linked to recurring drought and food insecurity, which have affected millions of people, according to United Nations estimates.
The meeting further reviewed progress on state transformation plans and discussed the formulation and status of the United Nations Country Framework for 2026–2030.
The National Development Council, which meets quarterly, forms part of broader efforts by Somalia’s federal government to strengthen coordination with regional administrations and advance development priorities while addressing humanitarian challenges, officials said.
