Jigjiga, 30 August 2026 The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia plans to expand modern financial services to 42 districts in the Somali Region, including interest-free banking, state media said Saturday.
The bank, in partnership with FSD Ethiopia, held an awareness and consultation meeting in Jigjiga to discuss the rollout, according to Somali Regional State TV.
Officials said the program targets areas where banking remains limited or unavailable and is part of a wider inclusive finance push in six regions of Ethiopia.

Participants were briefed on the new services and how communities can benefit. They also raised questions and received answers on the programme’s implementation.
