Jigjiga, 30 August 2026 Construction has started on a new $1.4 million headquarters for the Somali Regional State Investment and Industry Office.
President Mustafe Mohamed Omar, Urban Development Minister Ahmed Shugri and Investment and Industry Minister Ahmed Rashid laid the foundation stone on Saturday.
The project costs 219 million birr, about $1.4 million, and will be a modern six-storey building.
It is expected to be completed in 18 months and is being built by Boqore General Contractor.

Mustafe said the regional government has increased spending on infrastructure this year as more people move to cities.
"This year is the year in which the largest amount of funding has been allocated to urban development, because our people are increasingly moving towards cities," he said.
He said the shift away from pastoralism and rapid urbanization is driving demand for better infrastructure and industrial development.
