Somalia, 15 April 2026 — Somalia’s Public Works Minister Ayub Yusuf held talks with construction companies Wednesday to discuss cooperation on infrastructure and urban development projects, the ministry said.
Yusuf met with the firms' representatives under SORECA, the umbrella body for Somalia’s real estate and construction sector.
The ministry said the discussions focused on coordination between government and private firms in the construction sector particularly in urban areas.
“We need cooperation and partnership to develop the country and grow the economy,” the minister said, adding that both government and private companies must work together to attract reliable investment.
Yusuf said the ministry is overseeing road projects across several regions, including work covering more than 377 kilometres, with funding support from international partners.

He added that additional road projects are in planning and design stages, including routes linking different regions and neighbouring countries.
Yusuf also referred to urban development initiatives, including drainage projects in Mogadishu, for which officials said initial funding of about $70 million had been secured.
Chairman of SORECA, Abdirisaaq Ali Warsame, said construction activity is expanding across Somalia’s regions, with companies involved in housing, roads and large-scale urban projects.
“Across the country, there are major construction projects underway, from residential developments to roads and high-rise buildings,” he said, adding that the association is open to wider participation from firms and stakeholders.
Somalia has been rebuilding infrastructure after years of conflict, with increasing involvement from private contractors and external partners.
