Libya, 12 April 2026 Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Ali, met with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah in Tripoli on Saturday to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, officials said.
According to Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, the discussions focused on security, migration management, protection of Somali citizens in Libya, and strengthening diplomatic cooperation on regional affairs.
During the meeting the minister delivered a message from Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, emphasizing the importance of enhancing structured cooperation and deepening diplomatic ties.
The meeting comes as both countries intensify efforts to curb irregular migration and dismantle human trafficking networks operating across borders.
Libya has long been a key transit route for migrants attempting to reach Europe, including thousands of Somalis who undertake dangerous journeys facilitated by smuggling networks.

Somali authorities say they have in recent years increased cooperation with regional partners to reduce irregular migration and improve the protection and repatriation of citizens stranded abroad.
According to the Foreign Ministry, more than 2,000 Somali migrants were repatriated from Libya in 2025, with additional returns expected in the coming days through joint coordination efforts.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen diplomatic coordination between the two countries.
Officials said the cooperation is part of Somalia’s broader efforts to enhance regional stability and expand international partnerships.
