Somalia, 15 April 2026 Somali government forces and international partners, killed at least 54 Al-Shabaab militants in airstrikes across Hiran, Lower Shabelle, Bay and Lower Juba regions, the defence ministry said Wednesday.
In a statement, the ministry said the operations targeted Tardo in Hiran, Ugunji in Lower Shabelle, Daynunay in Bay , and Qumbi in Lower Juba.
The ministry said the strikes destroyed key Al-Shabaab positions where fighters had been regrouping in recent days following movements observed in those areas.
“The operations inflicted heavy losses on the Khawarij Al-Shabaab militants,” the statement said, using the government’s term for the group.

It added that several strategic sites used by the militants were destroyed, including locations believed to have been used for planning and coordinating attacks.
The ministry said the operations form part of ongoing military efforts aimed at weakening Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities and preventing the group from using rural areas as bases to launch attacks against civilians.
Somalia has intensified its military campaign against Al-Shabaab in recent years, often working with international partners to carry out airstrikes and coordinated ground offensives.
