Mauritania, 28 December 2025 The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has strongly condemned Israel’s announcement recognizing the independence of Somaliland region, describing the move as a flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mauritania said the declaration constitutes a serious breach of the principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and poses a direct threat to regional and international peace and security, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
The statement reaffirmed Mauritania’s alignment with Arab, Islamic, and African positions rejecting any recognition or support for attempts to undermine Somalia’s territorial unity.

Nouakchott reiterated its firm and unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Mauritania further stressed its rejection of any foreign interference or efforts to impose an illegal reality, underscoring its full solidarity with the Somali government in its efforts to preserve national unity, stability, and security.
