Eritrea, 28 December 2025 Eritrea has rejected Israel's recognition of Somaliland, describing it as an organized move to fan conflicts in the Horn of Africa region.
In a press statement issued by the country’s Ministry of Information, on Sunday, Eritrea called for a clear and unambiguous response from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) against Israel's unilateral decision.
Eritrea particularly urged China to take charge of the matter at the UNSC, saying the Somaliland issue was similar to the ‘Taiwan independence question’, which was being pushed by some Western countries despite China's strong opposition. (China considers Taiwan part of its territory)

The statement urged Israel to respect international laws regarding sovereignty to prevent regional conflicts.
The Eritrea's statement adds to the growing diplomatic reaction to Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, a move that the Federal Government of Somalia has described as undermining the unity, sovereignty, and cohesion of Somalia.
