Tanzania, 28 December 2025 The East African Community (EAC) has reaffirmed its recognition of the Federal Republic of Somalia as a single, sovereign state under the authority of its federal government.
In a statement issued by the EAC Secretariat in Arusha, the regional bloc said it fully recognizes Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, aligning its position with that of the African Union, as reflected in the Constitutive Act of the AU and relevant decisions concerning Somalia.
The EAC emphasized that, in accordance with the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community, Somalia is recognized within the borders it inherited at independence.

The statement further called on all stakeholders to respect the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia and urged adherence to established regional and international legal frameworks governing state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
