Kenya, July 16, 2026 - The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has announced that all medical certificate attestation services will move online from August 3, 2026, marking the end of the manual application process.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the Council’s CEO, David Kariuki, confirmed that the transition phase will run from July 20 to July 31, 2026, ahead of the full implementation of the online attestation platform.
After the new system takes effect, all medical practitioners shall be required to submit their certificate attestation requests exclusively through the online platform.
“The online attestation service will only be available through the online service practitioner portal to licensed medical practitioners who are in good standing with the Council,” Kariuki stated.
“KMPDC thanks all stakeholders for their cooperation during this transition and remains available to provide any clarification or assistance as required,” he added.
According to the council, the move is aimed at strengthening ownership and accountability in the medical certification process, as well as improving accessibility for practitioners and patients.
It is also a critical move in advancing KMPDC's commitment to digitising and automating its services for transparency, reliability and service excellence.
Medical certificates serve as official documents issued by medical practitioners to confirm a person's health status.
These documents are commonly required by employers to validate sick leave, by schools to justify students' absence from examinations or classes, by insurance companies when processing medical claims, and by courts or government agencies as supporting evidence in legal matters.
These documents are also used to determine if an individual is fit to work, travel, participate in sports, or perform other activities where health is a key consideration.
Attestation of medical certificates verifies that a certificate was genuinely issued by a licensed and registered medical practitioner. The process helps curb the use of forged or fraudulent medical documents and enhances public trust in medical records.
