29 May 2026 - A delegation of Members of Parliament from the United Kingdom and representatives from the Coalition for Global Prosperity have toured water projects in Marsabit County implemented by Caritas Marsabit through support from CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development).
The delegation visited Mude village in Bubisa where they inspected a 400-cubic-metre underground water tank constructed by Caritas Marsabit in 2016 and currently managed by the local community.
According to Caritas Marsabit, the visit aimed at showcasing the impact of development interventions that have improved access to clean water and strengthened resilience among pastoralist communities in the region.
“The community in Mude settled in the area in search of pasture for their livestock, but access to water remained a major challenge,” the organisation said in a statement.
Before the project was established, families reportedly travelled up to 21 kilometres in search of water for domestic use and for their livestock, exposing them to hardship and limiting economic activities.
Caritas Marsabit said the underground tank has significantly reduced the burden on residents by bringing reliable access to clean water closer to the community.
“Today, the community has reliable access to clean water closer to home, improving livelihoods, supporting livestock, and restoring dignity to families,” the statement added.
Residents who interacted with the visiting delegation expressed gratitude for the support, saying the project has transformed lives and enhanced the community’s ability to cope with recurring drought and water scarcity challenges.
Caritas Marsabit also hailed its partnership with CAFOD, noting that the collaboration continues to support vulnerable communities across Marsabit County through sustainable development programmes.
The visit comes as humanitarian organisations and development partners intensify efforts to address the effects of climate change and water shortages affecting pastoralist communities in northern Kenya.
