US, August 27, 2026 - Google has unveiled new features for Gemini Live, introducing more 'agentic' capabilities that let the AI assistant handle complex, multi-step tasks on users' behalf.
The tech giant said that the new features on Gemini Live allow users to use voice commands to manage tasks, organise information and interact with Google apps without having to rely on their screens.
The company said that the upgrades followed the growing number of users who are interacting with the AI assistant using voice commands for their daily AI tasks.
“Life moves fast, and speaking a prompt out loud is often the quickest way to get help with Gemini. We know how important this speed is to you: 63% of users talk to Gemini out loud,” the company stated.
“Today we're rolling out a major productivity upgrade to Gemini Live, bringing in powerful agentic capabilities so you can do more with your voice than ever before,” it added.
One of the major additions is the integration of Gemini Live with Spark, an AI agent designed to carry out tasks across Google Docs, Sheets, Drive and the web.
According to Google, after users give Gemini instructions through natural conversation, Spark will organise information and execute tasks in the background, including jobs that may take days or weeks to complete.
Google has also integrated its Daily Brief feature into Gemini Live. Users can ask, 'What’s my daily brief?' and receive a spoken summary combining important updates from Gmail and Google Calendar.
Furthermore, through the updates, Gemini Live will also gain hands-free Gmail management capabilities, whereby users will be able to ask about new or urgent emails and instruct Gemini to search, summarise, star, archive or delete messages using voice commands.
The AI assistant will also use Personal Intelligence to provide more personalised responses by connecting information from past conversations with Google services including Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube.
To use the new features, Google said users need to connect their preferred apps through Gemini Personal Intelligence settings before tapping the Live icon in the Gemini app and starting a conversation.
