June 01, 2026 - More than 50 young people from host and refugee communities in Turkana County have undergone digital skills training aimed at enhancing their employability, entrepreneurship and participation in the growing digital economy.
The one-day training was organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in partnership with the Power Learn Project (PLP) and the Turkana County Government.
Speaking during the opening session, Turkana Chief Officer for Sports and Vocational Training Education said the programme aligns with the Refugee Act 2021 and the Government of Kenya's Shirika Plan, which seeks to promote the integration of refugee and host communities for shared social and economic development.
He urged the youth to take advantage of opportunities created through national and county government programmes, stressing the importance of peaceful coexistence, inclusivity and equal access to economic opportunities.
The chief officer also encouraged participants to embrace digital literacy, describing it as a critical skill for success in the modern job market and the digital economy.
"The digital economy presents immense opportunities for young people. Acquiring digital skills will enhance employability, support entrepreneurship and open up new pathways for economic empowerment," he said.
