UK , August 30, 2026 - Manchester United produced a dramatic comeback at Old Trafford, defeating newly promoted Ipswich Town 5-2 in an entertaining Premier League encounter that saw captain Bruno Fernandes score a sensational hat-trick.
The victory was particularly important for Michael Carrick's side after United suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Hull City in their opening league fixture. The response at Old Trafford was emphatic, although Ipswich initially looked capable of causing another major upset.
Gary O'Neil's newly promoted side stunned the home crowd in the 29th minute when Leif Davis opened the scoring.

His latest performance demonstrated that his influence extends well beyond creating goals for teammates.
United's attacking quality eventually overwhelmed Ipswich.

Bryan Mbeumo added another goal as the hosts pulled further away, while an own goal from Ipswich defender Jacob Greaves also contributed to United's five-goal tally.
Ipswich refused to completely surrender, however, with Chuba Akpom scoring late to make it 5-2.
The final score nevertheless reflected United's dominance during the second half.
A much-needed response for United#
The victory provides an important boost for Carrick after the disappointing opening-day defeat at Hull.
United showed character by recovering from an early deficit rather than allowing frustration to take over. Marcus Rashford also returned to the starting XI for the first time since December 2024, adding another encouraging storyline to the afternoon.
For Ipswich, the defeat will be disappointing, but O'Neil can take positives from the way his side competed for long periods.
