MOGADISHU, 27 Oct Somalia Non-State Actors (SONSA) has welcomed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s invitation to political stakeholders to hold talks aimed at resolving the dispute over federal elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the civil society umbrella organisation described the initiative as an important step that should deliver results, calling for efforts to secure participation by all sides and avoid further delays.
SONSA said it was working towards joint civil society participation in the talks while continuing efforts to address obstacles to dialogue.
The organisation called for genuine discussions grounded in meaningful compromise, with a focus on the fundamental issues surrounding federal elections.
It also recommended that the initiative complement and align with earlier efforts to bring the government and opposition closer together, including the Future Council, the National Unity Forum and Nabad iyo Nolol.
SONSA said inclusive participation would help ensure implementation of any agreements reached and overcome political disputes affecting state-building, security, the economy, national unity and public trust.
