DJIBOUTI, 27 October 2026 — Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh announced on Tuesday a special allocation of 1.8 billion Djiboutian francs, approximately $10.13 million, to the Djibouti Economic Development Fund (FDED) to support young entrepreneurs and reduce unemployment, according to the Djibouti News Agency (ADI).
Guelleh made the announcement at the opening of the Council of Ministers’ 12th session, saying the funding would strengthen support for young people.
The allocation aims to encourage domestic private enterprise and diversify the economy. The president stressed the need to improve young entrepreneurs’ access to financing so they can turn their ideas into businesses and create sustainable jobs.
The FDED will also provide beneficiaries with training, technical assistance and ongoing monitoring of their business activities.
Priority sectors include agriculture, livestock, fisheries, tourism, renewable energy, logistics, digital services and the circular economy, which promotes reuse and waste reduction.
Guelleh said the programme’s success would be assessed by the viability of the businesses established, the number of jobs created and their lasting contribution to the country’s economic growth.
