Somalia plans to build a new international airport in Mogadishu at an estimated cost of $714 million, with construction expected to run from 2026 to 2028, officials said.
The project, known as the New Mogadishu International Airport (NMIA), is among the country’s largest infrastructure initiatives, aimed at improving domestic and international connectivity.
Authorities said the New Mogadishu Development Company (NMDC) has launched an investor roadshow to attract local and international financing for the project.

The airport is expected to increase passenger and cargo capacity while easing congestion and addressing expansion constraints at the current facility.
Officials said the new airport would serve as a key international gateway and form part of the broader New Mogadishu Special Economic District plan.
The wider project includes a seaport and a commercial hub to be developed in northern Mogadishu, with the aim of creating jobs and supporting long-term economic growth.
The government said the project has entered the investment phase and is expected to become a major milestone in Somalia’s infrastructure development.
