Kenya, 1 September 2026 - Four people have been critically injured following a road accident along the Banissa–Rhamu road on Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred at around 10:00 a.m. and involved a Toyota Land Cruiser carrying 14 passengers. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road while travelling from Banissa towards Rhamu.
According to preliminary information, the vehicle had departed Banissa at around 7:00 a.m. before the accident occurred several hours into the journey.
The four critically injured passengers were rushed to Rhamu Sub-County Referral Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment.
The condition of the other passengers was not immediately clear, and further details on possible additional injuries were still being established.

The circumstances that caused the vehicle to veer off the road remain unclear. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and establish whether factors such as road conditions, vehicle condition or driver-related issues contributed to the crash.
Residents have meanwhile called for increased road safety measures along the Banissa–Rhamu route, particularly as the road serves as an important link for communities travelling between the two areas.
