Somalia, 1 April 2026 Somalia’s House of the People Speaker Sheikh Adan Nur Madobe held security talks with military officers in Baidoa on Tuesday night, as the federal government stepped up efforts to stabilise South West State following recent political upheaval.
The meeting held at the regional presidential palace brought together senior officers from the Somali National Army and regional forces involved in an operation that cleared Al-Shabaab militants from the key road linking Mogadishu and Baidoa.
Commanders briefed the speaker on the outcome of the operation and the latest security situation in Baidoa and surrounding areas, according to a statement issued by parliament.
The talks focused on reinforcing security in the city and accelerating operations against militants in nearby areas, as federal troops consolidate control after days of tension.

The developments come ahead of an expected visit by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Baidoa aimed at pushing reconciliation efforts following the resignation of South West State President Abdiaziz Mohamed Laftagareen.
Senior federal officials have accompanied the speaker to engage key stakeholders in the region.
Security has been tightened in the city, and restrictions on movement, officials said.
Madobe praised the armed forces for their role in securing key supply routes and maintaining stability.
