Galmudug, (Dawan), 3 August 2026 – The Galmudug Electoral Commission announced Monday that the Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP) won 115 of 243 local council seats after receiving 106,388 votes, or 55.55 percent of valid ballots.
Local council elections were held in 11 districts across Galmudug State. A total of 197,971 people voted. The commission said 191,504 ballots were valid and 6,467 were rejected.
JSP finished first. Towfiiq came second with 26,063 votes and 49 seats.
Karaama won 22,029 votes and 29 seats. SICAD received 19,901 votes for 25 seats.
Marsan obtained 3,960 votes and 10 seats. Ramaas received 2,810 votes for 7 seats.

SAAB secured 4 seats with 2,737 votes. Qiimo Qaran won 3 seats with 5,415 votes.
The Somali Democratic Organisation received 682 votes for 1 seat.
Several parties received votes but won no seats, including Justice, Unity and Pillar; Somali Citizens; the Somali People’s Organisation; Dan Shacab; People’s Unity; Somali Good Governance; and the National Youth Council.
The commission said votes from 2 polling stations were excluded after reported irregularities. Videos of incidents at the stations had circulated on social media. The commission said it excluded the votes after reviewing the incidents.
It also said turnout differed from the House of Representatives election because voters received 2 separate ballots. Voters could choose one party for the House vote and a different one for the council vote.
