UK, 4 November 2026 - Manchester United came from 2-0 down to beat AS Roma 3-2 in the Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, easing the pressure on embattled manager Michael Carrick.
Roma took a 2-0 lead through an 11th-minute goal from Matías Soulé and a 17th-minute penalty from Donyell Malen.
The dramatic win came hot on the heels of a 2-0 Premier League defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, 31 October 2026.
United struggled in the first half and trailed 0-2 at half-time. They came out stronger after the break, with captain Bruno Fernandes pulling one back in the 58th minute. The Portuguese international was given a reprieve when the referee checked for possible encroachment after goalkeeper Devis Vasquez had saved his penalty. When Fernandes retook it, he sent Vasquez the wrong way, the goalkeeper diving left as the ball rolled into the net.
Moments later, Bryan Mbeumo came close to equalising, but his effort struck the post twice.
Matheus Cunha then scored two goals in three minutes to give United a well-deserved win, the winner coming in the 86th minute. He celebrated wildly, removing his shirt and jumping into the crowd to celebrate with fans, and was booked for his conduct.
