MOGADISHU, 3 August 2026 – The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Somalia held a gathering in Mogadishu on Monday in support of the Sudanese people, following reported advances by government forces against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Ambassador Abdelrahman Khalil told attendees that Sudanese forces had retaken the North Kordofan towns of Umm Sayala, Umm Qirfa, Jabra Al-Sheikh and Bara in recent days. He said the army had also reopened the western road linking Omdurman to Al-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan.
"The army found a huge quantity of weapons and ammunition, modern electronic jamming systems, advanced missiles, air defense systems and a large number of drones," Ambassador Khalil said.

He added that some estimates suggested the seized weapons and supplies could equip and support the Sudanese army for up to six months.
The conflict between Sudanese government forces and the RSF began in April 2023. It has killed tens of thousands, displaced millions, and triggered a severe humanitarian crisis with widespread destruction to essential services across Sudan.
