MOGADISHU, 2 November 2026 The COPIC Youth Forum 2026 opened in Mogadishu on Monday, organised by the Alliance for Climate and Peace (ACP), with focus on strengthening role of young people in peacebuilding, conflict prevention and enhancing community resilience to climate change.
The two-day forum, an annual national platform, has brought together nearly 200 participants, including youth leaders, youth organisations, students, innovators, peacebuilding practitioners and environmental advocates.
Government representatives, United Nations agencies, development organisations, donors and civil society groups are also taking part.
According to organisers, the agenda places particular emphasis on how Somali youth can play more meaningful role in decisions affecting their future, at a time when country is undergoing democratic transition requiring broader public participation.

Discussions are also examining links between conflict and climate change, two challenges increasingly affecting people's lives, as well as how youth-led innovation can contribute to developing sustainable solutions.
Ahmed Karim, Head of Partnerships at Alliance for Climate and Peace (ACP), said the forum aims to bring Somali youth together and strengthen their role in peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
Participants are expected to present practical ideas and recommendations to strengthen cooperation between young people and relevant institutions, with aim of building peaceful society more resilient to security and environmental challenges.
The forum is part of broader efforts to ensure Somali youth do not simply discuss challenges facing them, but also play active role in shaping and implementing solutions for country's future.
