MOGADISHU, 2 November 2026 — The Banadir Regional Administration laid the foundation stone for reconstruction of Sinai Market in Mogadishu on Monday following its recent demolition, pledging to return former traders to their business spaces once construction is completed.
According to the regional administration, the project was officially launched by Deputy Governor for Security and Political Affairs Mohamed Ahmed Diriye, widely known as Yabooh.
The reconstruction aims to redevelop the market, which the administration described as public property belonging to the Mogadishu Municipality.
Officials said the project forms part of a broader plan to modernise markets across the capital and improve commercial infrastructure and services for traders and residents.
