Kenya, 3 August 2026 - The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary one-month closure of a section of Mombasa Road (A8) at the Highway Educational Complex near Bellevue to facilitate construction works.
In a notice on Monday, August 3, KeNHA Director General Luka Kimeli noted that the closure will affect both bound lanes and will be implemented interchangeably from Monday, August 10, 2026, to Monday, September 14, 2026.
Kimeli said the temporary closure will allow for the construction of a box culvert while minimizing traffic disruptions along the affected section of the road.
“All motorists using this road section will utilize the unclosed two lanes, which shall be provided interchangeably during the construction period to minimize traffic interruptions,” it added.
KeNHA has advised motorists using the affected section to adhere to the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be stationed at the site to direct traffic.
The announcement comes almost two months after the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced the temporary closure of several key roads in Nairobi for up to eight months to allow for construction works.
The authority said a section of Ngong Road between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road will be partially closed from Thursday, June 11, until Thursday, June 18, 2026, to allow for the installation of a twin cross culvert along the route.
Additionally, a section of Kenyatta Avenue at Valley Road/Jakaya Kikwete Road will be closed from Friday, June 12, 2026, until February 12, 2027, to pave the way for bridge construction works.
A section of Haile Selassie Avenue will also be partially closed from Friday, June 12, until Monday, October 12, 2026, to facilitate bridge construction works along the route.
