Somalia (Dawan Africa) July 30 2026 – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the commander of U.S. Africa Command discussed accelerating the fight against Al Shabaab and strengthening security cooperation during talks in Mogadishu on Thursday, the presidency said.
Mohamud met General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, the head of AFRICOM, to review the security situation in the wider region, counterterrorism operations and defence cooperation between Somalia and the United States, according to a statement from Villa Somalia.
The president thanked Washington for its continued support, saying cooperation between the two countries had contributed to strengthening Somalia’s security forces and promoting stability in the country and the wider region.

Anderson reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Somalia in counterterrorism operations, military capacity-building and strategic security cooperation, the presidency said.
The meeting comes as Somalia prepares a new phase of operations against Al Shabaab. Earlier this month, Mohamud said the government was preparing a broad campaign aimed at recovering areas still controlled by the group and restoring government authority and public services.
The United States is one of Somalia’s main security partners and has provided training, intelligence, logistical assistance and air support to Somali forces fighting Al Shabaab.
