Kenya, 28 October 2026 - Kenya’s grain processing sector is gearing up for a major industry milestone this Friday as top milling companies gather to celebrate outstanding progress in public health and manufacturing excellence.
The third annual Kenya Millers Fortification Index (KMFI) Awards, scheduled for October 30, 2026, at Aurora Bustani in Thika, will shine a spotlight on maize and wheat millers who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to food fortification and rigorous quality control.
Organised by the Cereal Millers Association (CMA) in partnership with international development non-profit TechnoServe and the Millers for Nutrition coalition, the event highlights the vital role the private sector plays in safeguarding national health through everyday food staples.
The KMFI serves as a critical, industry-led benchmark that tracks how effectively millers comply with national food fortification mandates.
Under Kenyan law, large-scale millers are required to enrich staple flours with essential vitamins and minerals, including Iron, Zinc, Vitamin A, and B-complex vitamins. By evaluating and publicly ranking these companies based on their production practices and quality standards, the index creates a transparent framework that drives positive change.
This annual assessment encourages millers to upgrade their technology, invest in precise dosing systems, and maintain consistent fortification levels, ultimately ensuring that consumers receive the nutritional value promised on the packaging.

Beyond corporate recognition, the awards address a vital public health mission. Micronutrient deficiencies, often referred to as hidden hunger, remain a significant challenge in the region, contributing to preventable conditions such as childhood stunting and iron-deficiency anemia.
By celebrating compliant millers and fostering healthy competition within the market, the initiative aims to increase the availability of nutritious flour across Kenyan households.
The event is expected to draw industry executives, regulatory officials, and public health advocates, all united in the goal of securing a healthier, more resilient food supply chain for millions of consumers nationwide.
