MOGADISHU, October 28 2026 The Federal Government of Somalia on Wednesday launched the National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security for 2026–2030 in Mogadishu to strengthen the role of young people in peacebuilding, national security and decision-making.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is leading the initiative, with support from international partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
“The programme has four pillars: conflict prevention, reconciliation and peacebuilding, participation in decision-making, and the creation of educational and employment opportunities,” the Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Abdulqadir.
Running from 2026 to 2030, the plan aims to enable Somali youth to play an active role in promoting peace, strengthening security and supporting national stability.
The implementation of the plan is expected to expand opportunities for young people to contribute to addressing Somalia’s security and social challenges, while strengthening their participation in efforts to build a peaceful and stable country.
