United States, April 24, 2026 - OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Clinicians, a specialised version designed to help healthcare professionals manage clinical tasks such as documentation, medical research, and patient care support.
In a statement, the tech company said the new tool will support clinical tasks such as documentation and medical research to help clinicians deliver improved patient care.
The free version of the tool is currently available to verified U.S. nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), and pharmacists, with plans underway to expand access to additional countries and groups over time.
The tool was engineered with the help of physician advisors to ensure that it fits and supports key clinician use cases.
The platform enables clinicians to access advanced AI models for handling complex clinical questions, reusable workflow tools for tasks like referral letters and prior authorisations, and trusted clinical search with real-time, cited answers from peer-reviewed medical sources.
It also offers deep research capabilities across medical journals, allowing clinicians to generate literature reviews and reports in minutes.
Furthermore, the company noted that eligible research conducted through the platform can count toward continuing medical education (CME) credits without requiring separate coursework.

To address privacy concerns, OpenAI said conversations on the platform will not be used to train its models, while additional protections such as multi-factor authentication and optional HIPAA compliance support are available for eligible accounts.
“Clinicians across leading U.S. health systems are now using it to move faster through administrative work like medical research and documentation, and get time back for patient care,” OpenAI stated.
“Enabling free access to ChatGPT for Clinicians is the next step in support of our mission to ensure AGI benefits all of humanity,” it added.
The new tool will supplement ChatGPT for Healthcare, which was introduced earlier this year and allows healthcare organisations to deploy ChatGPT across clinical, administrative, and research teams with enhanced compliance controls and security features.
