Mogadishu, 8 September 2026 Somalia's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar met a United Nations delegation Tuesday to discuss the transition of the UN Transitional Mission in Somalia, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
The delegation was led by Raisedon Zenenga, officer-in-charge of UNTMIS, and included Vikram Parekh, chief of the political and mediation group, the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting addressed the UNTMIS transition and continued coordination between the federal government and the United Nations, the ministry said.
Omar reaffirmed Somalia's commitment to a Somali-led and Somali-owned transition, saying international support should remain aligned with national priorities.
The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination in support of stability and institutional development, according to the ministry.

UNTMIS is scheduled to cease operations Oct. 31, 2026, following completion of its transition.
UNTMIS was established to succeed the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia, with a mandate focused on supporting peacebuilding, political and institutional development, human rights and governance.
The transition is expected to shift remaining UNTMIS functions to federal authorities, the wider UN system and other partners.
The ministry did not provide further details on arrangements or timetable for remaining transition activities.
