UK, 8 November 2026 - Manchester United on Sunday failed to replicate the perfect comeback they displayed in the Champions League, drawing 4-4 with Aston Villa at Old Trafford to stay 18th in the Premier League.
The draw is a relief for the Red Devils’ coach, Michael Carrick, as the team escapes the second-last slot.
Aston Villa were on the verge of winning before Manchester United’s prowess in stoppage time produced two goals in quick succession.
In the first five minutes, Aston Villa went ahead with two goals as Alysson Edward scored in the first minute of the game, and Nicolas Jackson scored in the fourth.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty for the home team in the 16th minute before Youri Tielemans levelled in the 44th minute. The teams went into half-time level at 2-2.
In the second half, Manchester United struggled as John McGinn scored a penalty in the 48th minute, and five minutes later Leon Goretzka scored the visitors’ fourth goal.
The work looked done, and Unai Emery’s side will blame themselves for allowing the hosts to level just after normal time. Two goals in the six minutes of added time (90+6) were just too much for the visitors, who were aiming to collect all three points.
