Kenya, 8 November 2026 - Opposition leaders on Sunday said they are keen to hand President William Ruto a serious defeat in the 2027 General Election, stating that the incumbent will suffer the same fate as U.S. President Donald Trump, whose Republican Party lost many seats to the Democrats in the mid-term polls.
Nyandarua Senator John Methu said President Ruto will go home in 2027 as he underrated Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, who was hounded out of office in October 2024 when he was impeached.
“This Rigathi Gachagua is a master who helped Ruto form government and he is not a person to joke with,” Methu stated.
He urged the people of Kitengela and Kajiado to learn from the people of Ol Kalou, who reaped big from the campaigns of the ruling party and voted for DCP candidate Sammy Waweru during the by-election.
He also campaigned for Kanar Seki of DCP to be the next governor of Kajiado County.
Dr Victor Munyaka of Machakos Town constituency said that, like Trump, President Ruto will be in for a rude shock in 2027.
“Did you see what Americans did to Trump? Next year (2027), who among you are ready to do the same to President William Ruto?” Dr Munyaka asked.
Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Mejjadonk said that opposition parties are keen to field one presidential candidate to battle it out with President Ruto.
“You residents of Kajiado, please support us in our push for Ruto to go home,” Mejjadonk said.
He attacked the President for allegedly fiddling in opposition affairs, stating that “we know how to handle our issues in the opposition.”
“Mind the wheelbarrow issues as you go home,” he said, referring to the wheelbarrow logo of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua of the Wiper Patriotic Front stated that he was happy with the huge crowds in Kitengela.
“I am your neighbour from Kitui and there, our people have told me that they are locked in ‘one-term’ politics,” Senator Wambua, a key ally of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, said.
Kalonzo is a key contender in the presidential race, and Senator Wambua told the crowds that his party leader is fit to run for president.
“You have seen Kalonzo and you have seen Rigathi Gachagua. Should they join hands to salvage our country?” he posed.
He urged residents of Kitengela and Kajiado to “reject political leaders selling wheelbarrow and two-term politics.”

To the youths, he urged them to stay awake as the urge and pursuit for change is on course.
Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia stated that the teamwork expressed by Kalonzo, Gachagua, Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) presidential candidate Edwin Sifuna and all the other players in the opposition is a sign that President Ruto’s days are over politically.
Kathiani MP Robert Mbui said: “For youths to get jobs, Ruto must go.”
He added that Kenya is still bedevilled by abductions and that for the country to move forward and for Kenyans to be at peace and experience intrinsic happiness, the Kenya Kwanza administration must be shown the door in the 2027 General Election.
Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia stated that opposition leaders are keen to send Ruto home.
Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo said that President Ruto did not honour his pledge to construct the road from Kitengela to Twala and that the water shortage issue in the area has not been addressed.
Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto said Kalonzo, Gachagua, Sifuna and Jubilee leader Fred Matiang’i should sit and agree on the next government formation.
Nairobi Woman Representative aspirant Millicent Omanga stated that in Nairobi the politics is “Ruto to go home to Sugoi” and urged Kitengela residents to vote for opposition candidates.
Other leaders at the rally included Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, Embakasi West MP David Mwenje, Kaiti MP Joshua Kimilu, Kilome MP Eng Nzambia Kithua, Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, Makau Mwau from Kitui Township, Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene, Advocate Ndegwa Njiru and Kajiado East MP aspirant Joshua Olowuasa, among many others.
Kavindu said she was happy to see many supporters of opposition leaders at the rally.
Mbalu said the people of the Export Processing Zones (EPZs) were really suffering.
“We the people of EPZs, taxes are very high, businesses are closing up,” she said as she implored voters to ensure Ruto is denied a second term.
On his part, Gakuya urged opposition parties to unite for the common cause.
“In Nairobi we say there is no any other road except for Wiper, DCP, Linda Mwananchi and the other parties to join us so that we can follow a road that will take Kasongo home,” he said, using the name Kasongo, which President Ruto has in the past acknowledged that he knows a section of Kenyans call him.
