12 June 2026 - Garissa gubernatorial aspirant Mohamed Shidiye and Baraki Ward Representative (MCA) Hasan Geley have raised alarm over two people reportedly abducted by security agencies.
They claimed Abdi Maohmed Seli also known as Baqaad was reportedly picked from his home in Afweyne early hours on Wednesday while Yussuf Hussein Maalim (Indey) was taken from Dagahley area in Dadaab earlier this week.
The abductors were reportedly using Toyota Probox vehicles, with claims that they were from multi-agency teams. Claims Dawan Africa could not independently verify.
Shidiye said he was concerned about disappearances of the two, adding that their families and loved ones deserve answers.
“No parent, spouse, or child should be left in anguish, uncertain about the whereabouts and well-being of their family members,” said former Lagdera member of parliament.
Shidiye, who is also a former Botswana envoy, called upon security agencies to urgently provide clarity on the whereabouts of Abdi Mohamed Seli and Yussuf Hussein Maalim.
He urged security agencies to ensure that all security operations are conducted in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
“Garissa residents deserve both security and respect for their fundamental rights, The increasing security concern incidents in the county calls for comprehensive security lapse audit and accountability,” Shidiye said.
The residents, he said, are living in fear and the situation is compounded by reported incidents of increasing attacks by organized gangs.

He said his thoughts are with the affected families during this difficult time.
He also urged the responsible authorities to address these concerns without delay.
On his part, Baraki ward representative claimed abductions and enforced disappearances have become a norm under the current administration, alleging that local police officers at Afweine Police Post and Police in Dagahley Station are not aware of the operations.
“The County Police Commander and Regional bosses are not aware of the arresting units and information. Kindly uphold the sanctity of the Constitution and protect innocent civilians from rogue Special Unit Officers,” said the vocal ward representative.
Geley said parents of the abducted men, families and the Community are in agony following the disappearance of their loved ones noting that abductions and enforced disappearances should stop.
