Kenya, October 25, 2026 - President William Ruto told residents of Mwingi on Sunday that he has come to the area to push development projects and make sure no part of Kenya is left behind. He said he will spend time in the region to launch more road projects after leaders and citizens asked for better roads.
Ruto linked the road works to a wider plan to attract investors. He said Kenya’s foreign direct investment has risen to 3.2 billion dollars and that the government wants to grow it to 8 billion dollars in the coming years. He pointed to the Dangote investment as an example of the kind of deals he is pursuing and said more investors are expected.
On the Kenya Pipeline Company, Ruto responded to criticism of Dangote’s recent share purchase. He said some people had called the shares overpriced, yet the same voices had earlier wanted government entities to buy them. He accused critics of acting like shylocks who hoped to buy the shares cheaply and later sell them at a profit. Ruto said the value of KPC shares has already risen by about 10 per cent this week and that the benefits should go to Kenyans, not a few individuals.
The President also announced that construction of another 1,000 affordable housing units will begin in the area. He said more housing projects are planned for the region so that residents can share in the national housing programme.
Water remains a major concern in Kitui North. Ruto said he has heard repeated requests for dams and that money is available to complete them. He promised that the National Infrastructure Fund will support water projects and that procurement for major dams will begin in the coming months.
More from Kenya
Ruto used the visit to argue that leaders must present clear plans rather than empty promises. He said development is possible when the government follows a proper agenda. He also warned against the misuse of young people through propaganda, citing past examples such as the 2024 Finance Bill protests and recent debates over live streaming of election results. He called on leaders to engage the youth with real opportunities instead of mobilising them around issues that do not help them.
Throughout the speech, Ruto returned to the same message: development must reach every part of the country, and the benefits of investment and infrastructure should serve the wider public rather than a few.
