MOGADISHU, 25 October 2026 — Three companies that supply electricity to Mogadishu and some of the country’s regions have announced they will raise electricity prices by $0.05 per kilowatt-hour, starting today, 25 October 2026.
The decision was announced by BECO, Mogadishu Power and Blue Sky Energy, following a meeting held today by the companies’ leadership to discuss the rise in fuel prices.
A press release issued by the companies said global fuel prices have been rising over the past eight months, following conflicts in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The companies said prices had reached their highest level in history.

The companies said fuel prices in Somalia have risen by more than 70%, making it difficult for them to continue providing the service at the previous price. They said the increase is much lower than the rise in fuel costs, taking into account the difficult circumstances facing the public.
“While we regret the rise caused by fuel prices, we hope that change will come in the near future, God willing,” the press release said.
Mogadishu Power previously sold electricity at 33 cents per kilowatt-hour. Following this increase, the new price will be 38 cents. BECO previously charged 41 cents and will now charge 46 cents per kilowatt-hour. Blue Sky Energy was also at 41 cents before the increase, which will now bring its price to 46 cents per kilowatt-hour.
