MOGADISHU, 25 October 2026 — Hormuud Telecom and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have discussed ways to strengthen support for Somalia’s economic and social development.
The talks took place on Saturday at Hormuud Telecom’s headquarters in Mogadishu, following a visit by a delegation led by the Head of UNDP in Somalia, Christophoros Politis. The delegation was welcomed by Hormuud Telecom Chairman Ahmed Mohamud Yusuf and members of the company’s senior management.
The two sides held a meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the private sector and development partners, investment opportunities in the country, joint initiatives supporting economic growth, businesses and job creation, and improving the livelihoods of Somali communities.
Hormuud Telecom said it is committed to strengthening its cooperation with development partners to implement impactful projects that bring sustainable development to Somalia and its people.
The talks build on an existing partnership between the two sides. In November 2025, UNDP and Hormuud Salaam Foundation, supported by Hormuud Telecom and Salaam Somali Bank, launched an 18-month project worth $820,000. The project aims to empower more than 2,000 young people and 360 small and medium-sized enterprises, with at least half of them being women-led businesses.
UNDP described the partnership as a powerful example of Somali-led development.
