Mogadishu, 25 October 2026 – Somalia’s Minister of Health and Social Care, Dr. Ali Haji Adan, has described the no-confidence motion brought against him in the House of the People on Saturday as a failed “coup.”
The minister made the remarks at a health sector networking event held in Mogadishu, hours after he survived the motion.
“A small, failed coup was attempted to remove me from office,” Minister Ali Haji said.
The minister said he was confident his work would be appreciated in the near future. “Thank God, in the next six months people will thank me,” he said.
The minister also said that when he was invited to the event, around the time of the motion, he asked the organisers whether they expected him to arrive in a sad mood. He said they told him they would pray for him and that he would come happy. “God accepted your prayers,” the minister said.
The motion, brought before the House of the People, was signed by at least 20 MPs and submitted to the Speaker on 10 October.
After the vote, 89 MPs rejected the motion, 50 supported it and 5 abstained, according to the Speaker of the House of the People, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur.
