MOGADISHU, 25 October 2026 — Some opposition politicians have congratulated Ali Abdullahi Hussein ‘Guudlaawe’, who was re-elected yesterday as leader of Hirshabelle State, and his deputy, Abdifatah Hassan Afrah.
MP Abdulkadir Osoble, a member of the opposition Salvation Forum, congratulated Guudlaawe and his deputy. He wished that God would ease the heavy responsibility entrusted to him and make him a leader who works for the development, peace, reconciliation and unity of the people of Hirshabelle.
Former Minister of Internal Security Mohamed Abukar Islow Duale, a member of the Haybad Qaran Alliance, also congratulated the new leadership. He urged them to work for genuine reconciliation among the people of Hirshabelle, especially those with grievances.

Meanwhile, other opposition members whose constituencies are in Hirshabelle have so far not issued any statement on the election. They have neither condemned the vote nor congratulated the elected leadership.
The congratulations come even though the opposition has previously rejected the one-person, one-vote electoral process led by the federal government. However, some of its members are congratulating the candidates who win those elections.
The same trend was seen in the Galmudug election held on 22 October, when opposition politicians congratulated Liban Ahmed Hassan, who was elected leader of Galmudug, despite disputes over the electoral process.
