Uganda, October 25 ,2026 - Uganda has discharged all 60 people who came into contact with the Kenyan traveller who tested positive for Ebola, after they completed the mandatory 21-day monitoring period without developing any symptoms.
Health Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi announced that none of the contacts tested positive for the disease. He also confirmed that Uganda has not recorded any new Ebola cases since declaring the end of its own outbreak earlier this year.
The contacts were identified after a Kenyan man who had lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo travelled through Uganda on his way to Nairobi. He arrived in Kenya on 3 October, was later confirmed to have Bundibugyo Ebola, and died on 5 October. Kenya has since recorded additional cases linked to that first patient, all of them among people who had close contact with him.
Uganda’s update provides reassurance that the virus did not spread from the traveller during his short time in the country. Health authorities in both nations have been working closely on contact tracing and cross-border surveillance since the case was confirmed.
The successful completion of the monitoring period for all 60 Ugandan contacts marks an important step in containing the regional risk from Kenya’s imported cases.
