Kenya, June 01, 2026 - Kenyans have been urged to brace for warmer temperatures and increased rainfall this month, as the country gradually transitions into the cold season, according to the latest forecast by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
According to the department’s monthly forecast, although some regions such as Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley and some parts of the South-eastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley and Northeastern Kenya might experience cool and cloudy conditions, the mean temperatures across the country are expected to be warmer than average this month.
The Lake Victoria basin and the coastal regions are set to receive near- average to above- average rainfall during the forecasted period.
The Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and surrounding counties, are expected to experience cool and cloudy conditions, with light morning drizzles and occasional afternoon showers.
“Occasional cool and cloudy conditions with light rains will be observed in the Central Highlands, including the Nairobi area, and some parts of western Kenya, the Central Rift Valley, and the Southeastern Lowlands as the cold season gradually sets in,” the department said.

“Additionally, occasional afternoon showers emanating from western Kenya may also be experienced over the Central Highlands, including Nairobi County,” it added.
The department has, however, cautioned that some regions, such as the Coast, the Southern Lowlands, North-eastern, and Northwestern Kenya, might experience strong winds that might lead to marine transport disruption and damage to infrastructure such as roofs and power lines.
Foggy conditions in some counties are also expected to reduce visibility at the airports and on roads that traverse highland areas, increasing the risk of accidents, diversions, and delays.
Cold conditions in some parts of the country might also increase the risk of respiratory illnesses such as influenza, pneumonia, malaria, and other vector-borne diseases. In arid and semi-arid regions, dust exposure may also increase eye infections.
