Kenya, 7 August 2026 - Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of attempting to shield police officers allegedly involved in the murder of psychologist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, hours after detectives released details of the ongoing investigation.
In a statement posted on X on Friday, Gachagua claimed the DCI's press briefing was intended to divert attention from police officers he alleges were involved in the killing.
"Bwana DCI, I have seen you have called a press conference to cover up the police killers of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso and then fix some boda boda riders," Gachagua wrote.
The former Deputy President further alleged that he had information identifying three police officers linked to the murder and challenged the DCI to publicly name them.
"You must name the inspector from Kikuyu Police Station, the constable from the same police station and the other constable from Karinde Police Post," he said.
Gachagua also claimed that officers had supplied him with information about the case, alleging there had been attempts to conceal the involvement of police personnel.

"Good officers have given me all the details and your days of covering up killings by police officers must come to an end," he added.
He further alleged that members of what he described as the "Nairobi Serial killer squad" had been transferred out of the city and urged the DCI to allow them to speak publicly.
The remarks came shortly after DCI Director Mohamed Amin announced that detectives had arrested one police officer, were pursuing a police inspector attached to Nderu Police Station, and had linked the murder to a long-running land dispute. Investigators also named additional civilian suspects they believe financed and coordinated the killing.
The DCI has not responded to Gachagua's latest allegations. Investigations into Dr Mutiso's murder remain ongoing.
