Kenya, August 7, 2026 - Detectives have linked a police inspector to the murder of renowned psychologist Dr Victoria Mutiso, with investigators now describing the killing as a planned execution allegedly driven by a long-running land dispute.
Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin said detectives are pursuing the inspector, who is attached to Nderu Police Station in Kikuyu, after investigations identified him as a key link between the alleged masterminds and the gunmen who carried out the fatal shooting.
The development comes after detectives arrested two suspects, including a police officer believed to have fired the fatal shots.
According to Amin, forensic investigations have strengthened the case after ballistic tests matched a firearm recovered from the arrested officer to the police inspector who remains at large.
"Investigations have established that the elimination of Dr Mutiso was driven by a longstanding land civil dispute," Amin said.
The DCI believes the inspector played a central role in coordinating the attack by allegedly connecting those who financed the killing with the individuals who executed it.

Investigators also said evidence places the arrested police officer at the scene of the crime, with detectives examining his alleged involvement in the shooting.
The murder of Dr Mutiso, a respected clinical psychologist and Head of Research at the Africa Mental Health Research and Training Foundation (AMHRTF), shocked the country and sparked calls for a swift investigation.
Police say the probe is still ongoing, with detectives pursuing more suspects believed to have planned, financed and facilitated the killing.
Amin said investigators remain committed to apprehending the fugitive inspector and dismantling the network behind what authorities now believe was a carefully coordinated murder.
