Asmara — Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and the Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan met in Asmara on Friday to discuss bilateral relations, the conflict in Sudan, political developments and regional security
A statement issued by Eritrea’s Ministry of Information said President Afwerki received General al-Burhan and his delegation, who were visiting Eritrea for talks on issues of national interest.
The two sides paid particular attention to the latest developments in Sudan, where the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in conflict since April 2023.
No official details were released regarding any specific agreements reached during the meeting. However, the talks reflected ongoing efforts by Asmara and Khartoum to strengthen political, security, and economic cooperation.

The meeting was part of continued diplomatic engagement and high-level visits between the two countries in recent months. In November 2025, Afwerki and al-Burhan met in Port Sudan to discuss security and economic cooperation, as well as coordination on regional political matters.
Eritrea shares a border with Sudan, making border security, developments in the Red Sea, the movement of people, and the wider regional impact of the Sudanese conflict important issues for both countries.
General al-Burhan and his delegation returned to Sudan after concluding their brief visit to Eritrea.
